I qualified from the Northern College of Chiropody in 1989 and started working for Liverpool Health Authority. I undertook organising the treatment of patients in Nursing Homes. I also worked in various Health Centres and had ward rounds in Broadgreen Hospital. In 1994 I gained a B.A. in Health Studies from Liverpool John Moores University. This involved studying various Health Education aspects and their application in varying health settings.

I started working in the Diabetes Clinic at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in 1998. In 2000, I became an Associate in this practice.

In 2002, I became a Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist at Broadgreen Hospital working as part of a multidisciplinary Diabetes team headed by Mr Casson.

I now work half of my week in private practice with Mr Boyle and Associates, and the other half for the NHS as a Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist in the Diabetes Centre at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. I specialise in the treatment of high risk patients with diabetes presenting with foot ulcerations, circulatory and neuropathic problems. I carry out regular education sessions to patient groups and other health professionals ranging from Care Assistants to Consultants. I also have an out-patient clinic in Broadgreen Hospital seeing mainly orthopaedic and rheumatology patients. I have recently gained a Certificate in Diabetes Care at Warwick University.
